Schedule involves some evening and weekend hours
FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Access Services Manager, this position is
responsible for assigning, instructing, directing and supervising the
activities related to the operation of a branch of the Greenville County
Library System. Performs management-related library services including
selecting and maintaining branch library materials collection; and
reader's advisory services. This position also supervises the operation
of a satellite library in the Slater community.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of modern library principles; of reader interest
levels and materials; of major fields of learning; of procedures and
skills applicable to public libraries. Ability to analyze professional
and administrative problems and suggest practical solutions. Ability to
plan, organize, and direct a complete program of Library activities.
Ability to supervise and to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with organizations, library staff and the general public.
Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work under frequently
stressful conditions and meet required deadlines. Ability to recognize
and correct errors. Good personal computing skills, including effective
use of word processing and spreadsheet programs, various Internet
browsers and email. Skilled in the operation and care of computer
equipment and barcode equipment. Ability to learn online computer
functions. Customer service oriented. Ability to communicate concepts,
general information, and task-oriented information in oral, written, and
electronic forms. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus. Must be able to
lift up to 25 pounds and push book carts weighing over 100 pounds.
MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or
university and three (3) years of progressive professional library
experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level.
Certified or eligible for certification by the South Carolina State
Library. Other combinations of experience and training, which meet the
minimum requirements, may be substituted. Greenville County Library
System may change assigned work location and schedule of any position
depending upon the needs of the system
