Director of Library Development, South Carolina State Library, Richland County, South Carolina
Announcement:
Under limited supervision of the Director of Library Development Services, consults with public library staff and administration on a variety of issues directly related to public library service. Develops and implements a statewide training program for staff development and continuing education to meet the needs of library staff, administrators, and trustees. Specialized knowledge in library functions and operation and training principles. Proficient in project management, interpersonal relations, networking, consulting, planning and priority setting. Thorough knowledge of staff development principles. Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing), work independently and exercise initiatives, establish effective working relationships with outside agencies, governing boards, public officials and the general public, and organize and present information through reports and public presentations.
Provide general consultant services to public libraries, specializing in staff development and training; reference and public service; workforce planning; human resources; and board development. Provide orientation and assistance to new library directors.
Provide assistance in the following areas: management skills, community relationships, marketing, and library director recruitment, project management and public services.
Supervises the grants coordinator including state aid and federal funding requirements, library consultants and the certification coordinator.
Coordinate the administration of grant programs to provide continuing education opportunities to South Carolina libraries. Participate in library grant programs discussions.
Works with leadership team on strategic planning and statewide initiatives.
Works with continuing education coordinator to develop appropriate staff development programs for the library community. Plan and organize State Library sponsored training activities for library staff at all levels. Coordinate procurement of speakers and venues with the agency's finance and business office staff. Provide specialized training for public library's staff based on needs and requests of library directors.
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited college/university and 4 years appropriate professional library experience.
