Job Description/Duties/Requirements:

REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN University Library, University of South Alabama The University Library of the University of South Alabama seeks a creative, knowledgeable, and technologically-adept individual to provide reference and instructional services, as well as collection development in one or more subject areas. This person will work closely with librarians and teaching faculty to promote information literacy across the curriculum.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Provide reference desk services as assigned, including evening and weekend rotations Work closely with the Instructional Services Librarian to design, deliver, and promote creative and effective library instruction to the University of South Alabama community Collaborate with the Instructional Services Librarian and teaching faculty to promote information literacy standards and goals within the university community Participate in collection development activities as assigned Perform library, professional, and university service Participate in professional development and scholarly activities Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS Required: Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Strong technology skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced service-oriented environment A creative, flexible, problem-solving attitude Ability to meet academic promotion and tenure requirements Preferred: Knowledge of current educational theories and instructional technologies Teaching experience, which may include library instruction, internships, assistantships, classroom teaching, or other instruction Experience using web technologies and knowledge of how they may be used in information literacy instruction Understanding of emerging technologies and their applications in an academic library environment Experience developing online instruction Finalists for the position will be asked to give a presentation during the on-campus interview. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, library faculty appointment to the University Library at the Assistant Librarian rank, and reports directly to the Head of Reference. The successful candidate will be required to engage in scholarly and service activities expected of tenure-track librarians.
