I began my library career at the University of Alabama where my first position was Science and General Reference Librarian. I served as the first Coordinator of Database Searching and also served as Assistant Professor and Business Reference Librarian before moving to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to serve as Reference Librarian for Business and Special Studies. I also recently served as Associate Librarian and Head of Reference Services before retirement from the university.
I have worked in various positions with the Alabama Library Association having served as Chair of the Membership Committee, Chair, Membership Committee, Chair, Awards Committee, charter member and Moderator of the Reference and Adult Services Round Table, charter member of the Alabama Association for Research Libraries, Chair, Steering Committee and founding member of the Alabama Caucus of Black Librarians and several committees of the College and Research Libraries Division.
I served eight years on the SELA Executive Board as the Alabama Library Association's Southeastern Library Association Representative. My other SELA service includes Chair, African-American Issues Round Table, and Chair, Outstanding Library Program Award Committee and member of several other committees including the Resolutions, Planning, Legislative, and Awards Committees.
I am also active with the American Library Association with service on several committees including the RUSA CODES Reference Publishing Advisory Committee and the RUSA CODES/STARS Cooperative Collection Development Committee. I also served as Chair, the Reference and Adult Services Division MOUSS Reference Services in Small and Medium-Sized Research Libraries Discussion Group.
Served as a member of the National Conference of African American Librarians 2010 Planning Committee, Chair, Facilities Committee for the conference held in Birmingham, Alabama.
