Crystal Gates currently serves as the Executive Director of the William F. Laman Public Library in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She is creating an engaged work culture and driving innovative, patron-centric services to meet the library's mission and exceed the community's expectations.
In 2010, Gates began serving as Director of the Jackson Parish Library in Jonesboro, Louisiana. Under her leadership, JPL was named one of the best libraries in the nation as a 3 Star Library two years in a row (2014-2015 Library Journal).
She currently serves as the Arkansas State Representative for the Southeastern Library Association, Treasurer for Advocates for Arkansas Public Libraries, Library Development District III Chair, Philanthropy Chair of the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi, and serves on numerous professional committees, including the strategic planning committee for ArLA. As a speaker at library conferences, she shares both her successes and lessons learned from embracing innovation, directing capital projects, and advocating for libraries.
An advocate of lifelong learning, Gates holds a Master of History from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University.
