Libraries across the Southeast, and the nation, are facing unprecedented challenges, from censorship efforts by organized groups to legislative actions that restrict intellectual freedom and threaten library funding. These attempts undermine library workers and the essential role of libraries in fostering knowledge and access to information.

In times of low morale and uncertainty, we must push back with creativity and strategy. Advocating for libraries means contacting legislators, state and federal, to voice strong opposition to efforts that dismantle our institutions. The right to read, inquire, and explore diverse perspectives is fundamental to a free society.

Regardless of political ideology, we all benefit when libraries remain well-funded and free from censorship. The Southeastern Library Association reaffirms its commitment to defending libraries, their workers, and the invaluable services they provide.
